Everything young people, teachers and schools need to know before starting the I CAN Earthshot Challenge.
Who can participate?
The challenge is open to young people aged 9–17 across India.
Do projects need to fit one Earthshot category?
No. Projects may address one or multiple Earthshots.
Can schools submit more than one project?
Yes. Schools may submit multiple projects.
Do projects need advanced technology?
No. Practical and impactful ideas are encouraged. Prototypes and tested ideas should be made and shared in the documentation.
What are judges looking for?
Child-led projects that demonstrate creativity, collaboration, action and measurable impact.
How much time does participation require?
Teams can adapt the project scope to suit their schedule. The deadline for submitting a solution is 2 October 2026.
Does my project need to solve a global problem?
No. Many powerful Earthshots begin with local challenges in schools, neighbourhoods and communities. Teachers are encouraged to help young people narrow down a large problem and solve it at a local level within their circle of influence.
What is the submission deadline?
All submissions must be completed and uploaded on the DFC submission platform by October 2, 2026.
What do winners receive?
All submitted projects will be reviewed by an expert panel; 15 projects will be shortlisted under each Earthshot category. These shortlisted teams will be invited to attend the Earthshot 2026 Awards & Summit in Mumbai in November.
In the event 5, winners will be announced one under each Earthshot category.
They will receive $ 2000 grant each to further develop their projects.
